Seven people are without a home on Moloka’i after their house burned to the ground Monday afternoon. Three adults and four children were in the home when fire broke out. One child, a seven year-old boy, sustained a minor injury to his hand. He was treated by first responders and taken to Moloka’i General Hospital.
Moloka’i Firefighters got the call at 5:24 p.m., Monday, and responded to 308 Seaside Place. When Kaunakakai crews arrived, the 1,400 square-foot home was fully engulfed in flames. Units from Hoolehua and Pukoo also assisted in fighting this fire. The fire was called under control at 6:24 p.m.
The three bedroom, two bathroom home was totally destroyed, with losses estimated at $200,000. The cause of the fire is undetermined but deemed as accidental. The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced family.
