Two Kihei residents are without a home today after a fire caused substantial damage Sunday afternoon. Kihei and Wailea fire fighters responded to a report of a structure fire at 2138 Waimaka Street at 4:13 p.m. Sunday. Crews arrived to find a 600 square-foot cottage, in the back of the main residence, approximately 25 percent involved in fire. The fire was brought under control at 4:35 p.m. No injuries were reported.
Investigation has determined dollar loss to be $60,000.00 to the structure and $10,000.00 for the contents. Cause of the fire is undetermined but deemed accidental. The American Red Cross is assisting the two displaced residents of this fire.
