Maui Police have identified an Arizona woman who died from spinal cord injuries she sustained in the ocean fronting the Makena Surf Resort in South Maui.
Forty-two year-old Wendi Van Briesen of Chandless, AZ, was found floating face down in the ocean on July 13 at 9:40 a.m. The woman was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition. Doctors revealed that Van Briesen had suffered a spinal cord injury. On July 19, Van Briesen succumbed to her injury and was pronounced dead.
