A man visiting from North Carolina appears to be a drowning victim after he was found face-down and motionless in near-shore waters off Kapalua.
Maui first responders arrived at 2:27 p.m., Sunday, after reports of a possible drowning victim in Kapalua Bay near Lahaina. Upon arrival, Charles Hoover, a 76 year-old man vising from High Point, NC, was pulled from the water and bystanders began cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Medics took over and transported the man to Maui Memorial Medical Center for further treatment.
Hoover was pronounced dead at the hospital. An autopsy is pending.
