The Maui Police Department’s Vehicle Homicide Unit has arrested a 41 year old Wailuku man in connection with Tuesday night’s hit and run crash that killed 51 year-old Viki Deardorff.
The crash was reported at 11:13 p.m., Tuesday. The male was arrested at the Wailuku Police Station after turning himself in on Friday morning. He was arrested on one count of accidents involving injury or death. He was released pending further investigation. Police have not released his name.
The Vehicle Homicide Unit went to his residence where he said his truck would be. The truck was parked inside his closed garage. Vehicle Homicide Unit officers had previously been to his residence before he had turned himself in, however nobody answered the door.
Police processed the truck and seized the truck as evidence in this case. The truck recovered was a 2012 Toyota Tacoma, bronze in color. Earlier in the week, police had requested the public’s assistance in locating the truck that was involved in this crash. Police were looking for a 2012 – 2014 Toyota Tacoma, bronze or khaki in color.
