Maui Police have confirmed the identity if a man killed in a traffic accident Wednesday in Kihei. North Kihei Road; 1.9 miles South of Honoapiilani Highway(30); 0.8 miles South of mile post 1, Kihei, Maui, HI, was the scene. At 9:57 p.m., Wednesday night, a Suzuki motorcycle 2014 at about 9:57 p.m. hours, a single motor vehicle crash occurred on North Kihei Road near the Kealia Wildlife Reserve in Kihei.
Investigation reveals that 2005 Suzuki GSX-R750K motorcycle being operated by Burton SALAS (24), from Wailuku, was traveling North on North Kihei Road when he failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway crossed left of center and collided into a guardrail located on the west shoulder. As a result of this crash SALAS sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.
Initial reports indicate that Salas was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. This is Maui’s sixth Maui traffic fatality of 2014 – compared with five this time, last year. The of drugs, speed an alcohol remain part of the investigation.
