Maui Police have confirmed the identity of a man killed in a motorcycle accident early today in north Kihei. According to Maui Police, at 1:56 a.m. today, about .1 miles north of Kaiwahine Street along Pi’ilani Highway, 63 year-old Clifford Spencer of Kahului was traveling northbound along Pi’ilani Highway.
Police say the black 1997 Harley Davidson motorcycle he was operating left the roadway and impacted a guardrail along the western shoulder of the highway. He was transferred to Maui Memorial Medical Center where he died from his injuries a short time later. Spencer was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The highway was closed while police conducted their investigation. No other vehicles were involved. The involvement of speed, alcohol and or drug use are parts of their investigation.
Spencer’s death is the fourth traffic fatality of 2014 – the number as last year at this time.
