The National Weather Service has CONTINUED the HIGH SURF ADVISORY for EAST FACING SHORES of MAUI and MOLOKAI, in effect until 6:00 p.m. Thursday.
A High Surf Advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area, producing rip currents and localized beach erosion. That powerful weather system that dumped copious amounts of rain on parts of Maui has moved east. In its wake, strong winds have generated advisory-level surf along east-facing shores.
EFFECTS: Expect surf of 5 to 8 feet along east facing shores. Forecast surf heights are estimates of the height of the face or front of waves. Expect strong breaking waves, shore break and strong rip currents, making swimming difficult and dangerous.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: BEACHGOERS, SWIMMERS, AND SURFERS SHOULD HEED ALL ADVICE GIVEN BY OCEAN SAFETY OFFICIALS AND EXERCISE CAUTION.
INFORMATION: Maui Civil Defense Agency will continue to monitor the situation. Please listen to your local radio and TV stations or NOAA Weather Radio broadcasts for any updates.
