A Maui man and two children made it safely across Iao Valley Stream after being trapped for a time by rising, rapid water. at 1:55 p.m. today, Maui firefighters from Wailuku and Kahului responded to Iao Valley Park for a report of three people unable to cross the river stream due to rising and turbulent water.
MFD’s Engine One was first on scene, where crews discovered an adult male, an eight year-old female and a nine year-old female, stranded on the other side of the river. All parties were safe on the rocks with no reported injuries. Fire personnel instructed them to remain in the safe area until more fire fighters arrived and until the water receded to a safe level. Once the water receded to a safe level, a rescue team crossed the stream and brought each individual safely back across the river.
All three individuals were checked for injuries once they were back on safe ground. No injuries were reported. All three were local Maui residents.
