Maui Police Department has reported that Kula Highway has been washed out at Mile Post 18.5. This is between Thompson Road and Sun Yat Sen Park.

Due to the heavy rains and flooding conditions in the Upcountry area of Maui, a portion of Kula Highway has been washed out between Thompson Road and Sun Yat Sen Park or approximately Mile Post 18.5. At this time, there is no access to Ulupalakua, Waiohuli, Keokea or other locations south of the brake in the highway. At the same time, traffic from the Hana side will not be able to drive beyond the break in Kula Highway. The highway will be blocked at Piilani Highway Mile Post 39, by Kalepa Point.
Maui County Civil Defense will continue to monitor the situation and will issue additional advisories as needed. Pre-recorded advisories and notifications are available 24-hours a day on the Maui County Automated Information System (AIS) by calling 986-1200.
