A strong and sturdy hunter walked out of the wild yesterday on Lana’i – unaware that he’s been reported overdue by friends.
Around 4 p.m., Maui Fire Department’s Engine 8, Rescue 10 and Air-1 were dispatched after reports that a hunter was overdue after a solo trip in the Mahana hunting area, about four miles east of Lana’i City off Kemoku Highway.
The original plan was to meet up with friends around noon, Sunday. A search began after four hours. Then, at 5:08 p.m., the man walked out on his own. The 51 year-old man – who was not identified – was fit, in good health and in excellent condition. He was uninjured and said he was unaware anyone was looking for him.
