Work to repair a 12-inch waterline break in Kahului near Wakea and Ni’ihau Street has been completed. However, motorists can still expect delays for a litle longer while workers remove heavy equipment and traffic barriers.
Water service was restored at approximately 3:00 a.m. this morning; however, Wakea Avenue from South Kamehameha to Lono, and Niihau Street from from Wakea to Moali are still closed as DWS personnel are working to complete road repairs after last night’s waterline break.
The roads should reopen by 10:30 a.m. this morning.
The break was discovered Thursday afternoon. Customers on Wakea Avenue from South Kamehameha Avenue to Lono Avenue, and customers on Niihau Street from Lono Avenue to Moali Street had no water until approximately 3:00 a.m., when the repair was expected to be completed. DWS workers met that deadline. When water service is restored, customers may want to flush their waterlines to ensure no sediment has built up in their lines.
The Department requests customers only call the DWS service number (270-7633) for emergencies.
