HONOLULU — The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) has reopened vehicular access on the Molokai State Forest Reserve – Maunahui access road from the hunters’ check station to the Makakupaia gate. It was closed on Feb. 4, 2014 due to unsafe road conditions caused by heavy rains. Forest use activities such as hiking and hunting were still permitted during the closure.
Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) crews used heavy equipment to remove debris from the road and resurfaced it where needed. After site visits by DOFAW workers the road looked good and dry and repair work held up after last weekend’s rains.
“DLNR appreciates everyone’s kokua with this closure for public safety purposes,’ according to department spokesman Dan Dennison.
