A woman and her daughter are safe this morning after fire gutted their Kihei home late Thursday night. At 11:20 p.m. Thursday, Maui Fire Department’s Engine 6 from Kihei and Engine 14 and Ladder 14 from Wailea responded to a fire call at 282 Kaipii Place in Kihei. They arrived within eight minutes and were joined on the scene by Batallion Commander 1.
Responding crews found the bottom unit of a two story house fully engulfed, with flames extending to the top floor. The occupants, mother and daughter, of the home as well neighboring exposures were evacuated. About 50 percent of the 3,000 square-foot home was destroyed. There were no injuries or damage to any exposures. Occupants of the home relayed that they would be staying with neighbors.
Damages to the structure were estimated at $400,000.00 and damage to contents of the home were estimated at $50,000.00. The fire was called extinguished at 2 a.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
