A Wailuku man died Tuesday in a bizarre series of collisions at Baldwin Beach Park. Maui Police say 46 year-old Harlan Masuda was found unresponsive in his vehicle after striking a series of objects in the park.
At 4:20 p.m., Tuesday, Maui Police responded to reports of a vehicle accident at the park. On arrival, police found a 2004 Dodge pickup truck that had impacted a coconut tree in the park. The lone occupant of the truck was non-responsive.
Paramedics and Maui Fire Department personnel attempted to revive the man but it didn’t work. Masuda was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses reported that the driver of the truck had initially collided into a parked vehicle then drove his truck into a cement barrier. The cement barrier broke off at which time the victim accelerated unto the soccer field and collided into the coconut tree.
Cause of death has not been determined pending autopsy results.
