The Goodfellow Brothers office located in Park Plaza on East Lipoa Parkway in Kihei received a bomb threat shortly after noon yesterday. Maui Police and Maui Fire Department crews found no bomb and cleared the building by 2 pm.
Park Plaza is located near the Maui Research and Technology Center, the Maui High Performance Computing Center and the Pacific Disaster Center. Under construction nearby is the new five-acre site of Maui Brewing Company’s South Maui Brewery and Cannery. Kihei Charter High School also plans to build a campus in the same area.
Even in paradise, any bomb threats should always be taken seriously. A real estate and property management firm has developed a bomb threat checklist and suggests all workers – not to mention shoppers in stores and malls – familiarize themselves with the evacuation route out of whatever the building may be.
If you receive a bomb threat call, please report it to the police immediately.
If a suspicious package is found, please do not disturb, touch, or move the item. Radios and cell phones may cause explosive devices to detonate. Any radios and phones in the vicinity should be turned off.
