The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a SPECIAL WEATHER ADVISORY for MAUI COUNTY.
EFFECTS: At 6:55 p.m., radar showed a line of strong thunderstorms over near shore waters west and southwest of Kahoolawe and Maui, moving toward the northeast at 20 mph. Wind gusts to 50 mph and small hail are possible with this line of thunderstorms, which are expected to move over Kahoolawe between 7:00 p.m. and 7:30 pm. This line of thunderstorms will be approaching the leeward west Maui coastline by 8:00 pm.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: STAY AWAY FROM STREAMS, DRAINAGE DITCHES AND LOW LYING AREAS PRONE TO FLOODING. RAINFALL AND RUNOFF WILL ALSO CAUSE HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS DUE TO PONDING, REDUCED VISIBILITY AND POOR BRAKING ACTION. DO NOT CROSS FAST FLOWING OR RISING WATER IN YOUR VEHICLE OR ON FOOT. TURN AROUND…DON’T DROWN.
