The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a Flood Advisory for the Island of MAUI in effect until 11:00 p.m. This advisory may be extended beyond 11:00 p.m. if heavy rain persists.
A Flash Flood Watch is also in effect.
EFFECTS: At 8:01 p.m., radar showed moderate to heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms moving over Maui from the west and southwest. Rainfall rates between one and two inches per hour will lead to ponding of water along roadways.
Although most of the moderate to heavy rain will initially impact leeward portions of the Island, heavy showers will impact windward areas as well. This flood advisory is in effect for the entire island of Maui.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: STAY AWAY FROM STREAMS, DRAINAGE DITCHES AND LOW LYING AREAS PRONE TO FLOODING. RAINFALL AND RUNOFF WILL ALSO CAUSE HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS DUE TO PONDING, REDUCED VISIBILITY AND POOR BRAKING ACTION. DO NOT CROSS FAST FLOWING OR RISING WATER IN YOUR VEHICLE OR ON FOOT. TURN AROUND…DON’T DROWN.
