Maui Electric Company (MECO) crews bore the brunt of the effects of an accident that happened late Wednesday night in Ka’anapali. A 33 year-old woman suffered non life-threatening injuries when the vehicle she was driving left Pu’ukoli’i Road, impacted and severed two utility poles. More than 600 customers lost power for up to five hours.
Maui Police closed the road between Pu’uhale Street and Honoapi’ilani Highway as a safety precaution while heavy-duty MECO trucks and equipment maneuvered in and out of the rain-soaked area to replace the poles and rewire the connections. The accident happened at 11:34 Wednesday night. The road remained closed until 11 a.m. today while MECO completed their repairs. The woman was not seriously injured. MPD will continue their investigation.
