Friends helped friends after near disaster until helped arrived along Maui’s rugged northwest coastline yesterday. Monday afternoon at 5:19 p.m., Maui Fire Department units Engine along with the department’s Air-1 Helicopter responded to the Olivine Pools for reports of two males in the ocean.
The two males, approximately 25 years of age, were fishing, when one of the males attempted to untangle his fishing line from the rocks. As he was untangling his line, a wave then swept him into the ocean. His friend jumped into the ocean after him to offer help. Air-1 with Rescue 10 personnel arrived on scene and airlifted the two fisherman to safety. No injuries were reported and both refused medical treatment.
