An industrial accident has left a portion of Central Maui without electricity today. Maui Electric Company reports that, at 2:41 p.m., a Genie Lift came in contact with two electrical lines on Hobron Avenue in Kahului, resulting in a fire that burned down both power lines.
Approximately 60 customers in the area lost power. Upon isolating the downed electrical lines, the circuit breaker was closed to restore power to the majority of customers at 2:48 p.m. At this time, an estimated 27 customers remain without power. Crews are working to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.
