The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the WIND ADVISORY for MAUI COUNTY, now in effect until 6:00 p.m. Wednesday.
A Wind Advisory means that sustained winds of at least 30 mph or gusts of at least 50 mph are expected.
EFFECTS: North to northeast winds are accelerating around, and over, the Big Island and Maui, leading to locally strong winds.
Expect northeast winds of 25 to 35 mph, with localized gusts to 50 mph, over the lower elevations. Expect sustained winds over Haleakala Summit near 45 mph with gusts approaching 60 mph.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: WINDS THIS STRONG CAN BRING DOWN TREE BRANCHES AND MAKE DRIVING DIFFICULT, ESPECIALLY FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES. MOTORISTS SHOULD USE EXTRA CAUTION.
