Electrical service has been restored to a majority of customers in the Napili area of West Maui as of 2:55 a.m.
Maui Electric Company apologizes for any inconvenience this situation may have caused and thanks customers for their patience and understanding. Power outages began spreading across the area with heavy rains around 2 a.m. as a significant band of showers and thunderstorms moved in from the southwest and west at the leading edge of a “juicy” cold front.
There have been no storm or flash flood advisories issued because meteorologists say the system – while robust – is moving quickly and prolonged downpours are not anticipated. Thunderstorms may be embedded in the front just now reaching the central and southern parts of Maui County. Watch looping radar images here.
