On Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at 2:22 am., the victim, a fifty-three year-old homeless female living in the Lahaina area, was attacked by a male later identified as a Calvin BORGE, forty-nine years old, of Makawao, while both individuals attended a holiday gathering at an apartment complex located on Wainee Street, in Lahaina.
The attack was unprovoked as the victim did not have any indication that she was about to be assaulted, and had barely known BORGE.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim, along with her fiancé, were within the apartment with the owner of the apartment and BORGE, along with BORGE’s fiancé consuming alcoholic beverages before the assault occurred. According to statements, both the victim and BORGE were conversing with each other briefly prior to the assault.
According to witnesses, BORGE approached the victim from the rear, got the victim in a rear neck hold, and used an envelope opener that had a semi-serrated blade and “slit” the front portion of the victim’s neck from left to right across her esophagus. The victim then shrieked and fell to the ground where she was tended to by friends who were on scene. The victim was transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center for treatment and was later released in satisfactory condition.
On Tuesday, February 19, 2013, BORGE was arrested and charged for ATTEMPTED MURDER in the SECOND DEGREE.
BORGE is currently being held at the Maui Community Correctional Center with his bail set at $100,000.00.
