The National Weather Service in Honolulu has continued the HIGH SURF ADVISORY for NORTH and WEST FACING SHORES of MOLOKAI and NORTH FACING SHORES of MAUI in effect until 6:00 p.m. Monday.
A High Surf Advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area, producing rip currents and localized beach erosion.
EFFECTS: A building north swell is bringing advisory level surf to Molokai and Maui.
Surf is building to heights of 12 to 18 feet along north facing shores of Molokai and Maui, and 10 to 14 feet along west facing shores of Molokai. Surf will continue to build today, and then peak tonight.
Forecast surf heights are estimates of the height of the face or front of waves.
A high tide of approximately 1.4 feet is expected between 3:06 p.m. and 4:24 p.m. this afternoon. The next high tide of approximately 2.2 feet is expected between 7:09 a.m. and 8:27 a.m. tomorrow morning.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: BEACH GOERS ARE URGED TO STAY OUT OF THE WATER AND WELL AWAY FROM THE SHORE BREAK DUE TO THE HAZARDOUS WAVE ACTION AND STRONG RIP CURRENTS.
