Is ‘Oprah’s Farm’ Her Next Big Idea

04 Apr 2012 - 6:35 pm

Oprah Winfrey may be moving ahead with her idea of moving to Maui to run an organic farm if her Oprah Winfrey Network, or OWN, on cable television doesn’t succeed.

That’s according to a new business registered with the Hawaii Department of Commerce & Consumer Affairs with the name “Oprah’s Farm LLC.”

The Los Angeles address on the registration is the address for Oprah Winfrey Network LLC.

When contacted by PBN, a telephone operator at that Los Angeles office would not release any details nor would she transfer the call to the proper individual who could give us details of the listing.

Digging further into Oprah’s Farm, the managing agent of the domestic LLC is CSC Services of Hawaii Inc. in Honolulu, which works with local law firms to register Hawaii businesses for Mainland clients.

Unfortunately, the firm couldn’t give us any information on Oprah’s Farm, either.

Winfrey owns land in several parts of Maui, including several hundred acres in Upcountry Kula that she owns under the entity OW Ranch LLC.

In January, several websites quoted a story in the National Enquirer saying that said Winfrey had joked that she’d move to the Valley Isle to run an organic farm if her new cable channel didn’t work out.

The media mogul remains ever-popular to marketers, even more so than singer Adele, the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, and New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow, according to a recent tabulation by the Davie-Brown Index, a marketing formula which measures a celebrity’s suitability in promoting products.

If there’s one thing that’s known about Oprah, it would be that almost anything she touches turns into gold.

So if she is actually planning to start up a farming business in Hawaii, let the digging begin.
