Maui Fire and rescue crews responded to a call along Kahekili Highway shortly before 1 p.m. today. 

Unit E-11 responded to the Olivine Pools ( Kahakuloa, MM16 Kahekili Highway ) for a female visitor, that got hit by a wave knocking her off the rocks. The visitor, a registered nurse from Prior Lake, Minnesota suffered injuries to her hip and upper leg. Injuries were considered critical.  

Fire personnel packaged the patient and got her prepared for extrication by MFD’s Air-1 helicopter. Air-1 on scene with Rescue 10 personnel, airlifted the patient to a landing zone, where she was then taken and boarded upon Air Med-1 for air transport to the hospital.
