The number of bankruptcies filed in Hawaii fell 25 percent in March, according to statistics from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Honolulu.
There were 267 bankruptcy cases filed last month under all chapters, which was 25.4 percent fewer than the 358 cases filed in March 2011, which was the most of any month last year.
The majority of bankruptcies filed were individuals filing Chapter 7 liquidation. There were 206 of those cases, a 24 percent drop from 271 cases filed in March of last year.
The number of Chapter 13 bankruptcies last month fell 31.8 percent to 58 filings, compared to 85 filings in March 2011.
