Sunday night at about 10:28 pm, Maui Police Department’s Wailuku Patrol Officers responded to a fire in an open field located mauka of Honoapiilani Highway (Hwy 30) just Kihei side of Kuikahi Drive.
Upon arrival of police and fire personnel, a 12’ X 8’ storage shed attached to a dog kennel was fully engulfed. The fire was quickly extinguished.
Initial investigation by police and fire investigators indicate that the fire started within the storage shed. The shed had no power source. The cause of the fire is under investigation, however, arson is suspected.
As a result of the fire, seven (7) adult dogs and five (5) puppies of mixed breeds had perished.
Estimated damages to the storage shed and contents valued at about $ 14, 000.00
