The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a WIND ADVISORY for the HALEAKALA SUMMIT above 6000 feet in effect until 6:00 p.m. Friday.
A Wind Advisory means that winds of 30 mph are expected.
EFFECTS: Strengthening high pressure north of the State has resulted in the strengthening of the trade winds at the summit level of Haleakala. This blustery condition will persist into Friday.
Strong and gusty east winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph will persist until Friday.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: WINDS THIS STRONG CAN MAKE DRIVING DIFFICULT, ESPECIALLY FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES. USE EXTRA CAUTION. SECURE ANY LOOSE OBJECTS THAT MAY BECOME AIRBORNE OR MOVE THEM INDOORS. VISITORS TO THE SUMMIT SHOULD PREPARE FOR WINDY AND COLD CONDITIONS.
INFORMATION: Maui County Civil Defense will continue to monitor the situation. Please listen to your local radio and TV stations or access NOAA Weather Radio broadcasts for any updates.
