The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH for MAUI COUNTY in effect until 10:00 a.m. this morning.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings. Severe thunderstorms produce winds of 58 mph or higher.
EFFECTS: This Watch includes Kahului and the following adjacent coastal waters: Maui County windward and leeward waters, Maalaea Bay, Pailolo channel, and Alenuihaha Channel
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: STAY AWAY FROM STREAMS, DRAINAGE DITCHES AND LOW LYING AREAS PRONE TO FLOODING. RAINFALL AND RUNOFF WILL ALSO CAUSE HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS DUE TO PONDING, REDUCED VISIBILITY AND POOR BRAKING ACTION. DO NOT CROSS FAST FLOWING OR RISING WATER IN YOUR VEHICLE OR ON FOOT. TURN AROUND…DON’T DROWN.
