Next Kahului Airport Meeting Set for March 13

09 Mar 2012 - 1:43 pm

KAHULUI – The State Department of Transportation (DOT) invites the general public and all interested parties to a public informational meeting regarding the Kahului Airport Master Plan Update and Noise Compatibility Program. This is the fourth of five meetings scheduled on Maui to provide information and solicit public input. The meeting is at the following location and time:

Pomaikai Elementary School Cafeteria
4650 South Kamehameha Avenue
Kahului, Maui, Hawai‘i

Tuesday, March 13, 2012, 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm

The purpose of the Kahului Airport Master Plan Update is to assess the capacity of existing facilities and to determine if these facilities are adequate to meet projected future demands. The Kahului Airport Noise Compatibility Program will identify existing non-compatible land uses, prevent additional non-compatible land uses and proposes measures to reduce any non-compatible land uses. There will be presentations on the recently completed operations and passenger forecasts and planned improvements.

There will be an opportunity for the public to provide comments on the planned improvements at the future airport. “The proposed master plan will be used as a guide at Kahului Airport to upgrade existing facilities and to provide for future needs,” said Glenn Okimoto, State DOT Director. “Public input is crucial in developing a long-term plan that will successfully continue to meet the needs of the community.”

For more information, please contact Ms. Lynette Kawaoka, Airports Division, Department of Transportation, at (808) 838-8818.
