A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation. Please monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash flood warnings be issued.

EFFECTS: A surface trough in the vicinity of Maui is forecast to move west through Friday. The trough will be interacting with an upper level disturbance, resulting in a good chance of heavy rains and thunderstorms.

The threat of heavy rains and thunderstorms will spread westward from Maui this afternoon to Kauai by overnight. With the saturated ground any additional rainfall will bring increased runoff that could produce flash flooding, potentially resulting in land slides.

PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: RAINFALL AND RUNOFF WILL ALSO CAUSE HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS DUE TO PONDING, REDUCED VISIBILITY AND POOR BRAKING ACTION. DO NOT CROSS FAST FLOWING OR RISING WATER IN YOUR VEHICLE OR ON FOOT. TURN AROUND…DON’T DROWN.
