Two women were critically injured in a head-on collision on Honoapi’ilani Highway Highway in Napili early this morning.
Maui Police say the incident occured shortly before 1 a.m. a third of a mile north of Napilihau Road. A 2004 Chrysler Crossfire two-door sedan was travelling toward Napili on the road in the stretch that is two lanes. That part of the road also has a solid yellow line – indicating a no passing zone. The Crossfire crossed over the solid yellow line and collided, head-on, into a 2004 BMW four-door sedan.
The Crossfire was being driven by a 24 year-old Lahaina woman. She was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition. The driver of the BMW, a 20 year-old woman from Lahaina, was also transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center – also in critical condition.
The Chrysler driver was wearing her seatbelt and her airbag deployed. The BMW driver was not wearing a seatbelt – yet her airbag deployed.
No other people were involved in the crash. Maui Police suspect the involvement of speed and drugs in the crash. Their investigation continues.
