Funding has been secured for projects to expand the access road and parking lot at the Kahului Airport on Maui and construction is expected to start in mid-2013.
The Maui News reports the projects, which have been delayed for years, include an access road that will allow motorists to bypass the congested Dairy Road in Kahului and add nearly 2,000 parking stalls at the airport. The newspaper reports the state of Hawaii has set aside $9.5 million in the 2012 and 2013 for the projects, and that the federal government is expected to cover the remainder of the estimated $60 million cost.
