Maui Fire Crews Rescue Man Overboard

16 Feb 2012 - 10:14 am

The Maui Fire Department rescued a 45-year-old man nearly three hours after he fell overboard from a 37-foot fishing charter boat near Lanai this morning.

The Coast Guard reported that the Maui Fire Department rescue boat pulled the man out of the water around 8:15 a.m. He was reported missing at 5: 28 a.m. when the Maui Fire Department received the distress call  from the 37-foot vessel “No Problem,” about two miles southwest of  Lanai.

The man’s condition was not immediately available.

A Maui Fire Department spokesman didn’t know if the man was a crew member or a visitor.

Hawaiian waters exposed to a north swell are under a small craft advisory today. The National Weather Service winds are blowing from the northwest at up to 25 knots and combined seas could reach 9 to 17  feet today.

A helicopter from the Maui Fire Department and a Coast Guard MH-55 Dolphin helicopter joined the search this morning along with the Maui Fire Department’s rescue boat, the Coast Guard’s cutter Kiska and a 45-foot Coast Guard response boat.
