A story that could have had a tragic ending wound up a happy reunion instead. A 75 year-old woman was hiking with friends near La Perouse Saturday. When she became separated from her party Saturday evening, she was reported missing.
At 5:45 a.m. Sunday the search began. The hiker was located and given a ride via Air-1 and Maui Fire, Search and Rescue crews to her husband waiting in the parking area to take her home.
The hiker was in reportedly in good condition and refused medical treatment.
And they say there’s no good news!
Missing hiker has been located, picked up by Air-1, and being transported to the parking area where her husband is waiting to take her home. She did not sustain any injuries and was in good shape when found. No medical assistance needed.
Yesterday (2/4/12), a 75 year old female went hiking with a group in La Perouse. At around 1400 hours she became seperated from the group. 2000 hours last night the call came in for the missing hiker. L-14 responded to La Perouse, did an assessment and decided to begin search at first light.
0545 hours this morning, Air-1 and R-10 began air search with L-14 conducting land search. As of 0730, search is ongoing.
