A Kayak with no one aboard was picked up by a commercial boat, The Seascape II, outside of the Whale Sanctuary in approximately 60 feet of water. It was brought in to shore where it was picked up by Maui Fifre Department Engine 6 personnel at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday and taken to the fire station. No kayak reported missing and no person reported missing at this time.
A friend reported his neighbor missing at 12:19 p.m. Wednesday after he failed to show up from kayaking. After seeing the kayak at Station 6, it was confirmed that it was his neighbors kayak. MFD Units L-14, R-10, and Air 1 began conducting air and land searches, and the U.S. Coast Guard Helicopter joined in the search Wednesday afternoon.
Search resumed this morning at 6:30 a.m. today with E-6, Air-1, LG-10, and JS-6. Coast Guard assisting with one Helicopter, one patrol boat, and two fixed wing aircraft. No new developments to report.
