Shortly before 5 p.m. last night Four Maui Fire Department Crews were dispatched to a structure fire at 658 Piliwale Road inKula.
Upon arrival 5:08 p.m., the on-scene commander related that a commercial type coffee roaster located in this structure of 658 Piliwale had caught on fire. The fire was isolated primarily to the chaff chimney that is the primary heat exhaust for the roaster. Engine 13 laddered the roof of the structure and utilized one hoseline to extinguish the fire from the top of the chimney. Engine 13 also cut the chimney to gain better access to the fire. The fire was brought under control at approximately 5:15 and extinguished at 5:30 p.m.
A fire inspector was called out to the scene. The cause of the fire and the approximate damages are still under investigation.
