Relocation of Lahaina Bus Hub Subject of Meeting

12 Jan 2012 - 10:56 am

LAHAINA, MAUI, HAWAII – Councilmember Elle Cochran invites interested members of the public to a community discussion to discuss the potential relocation of the Lahaina public transit hub. The meeting will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Friday, January 27, 2012 at the Lahaina Civic Center.

Cochran is soliciting public input regarding five suggested transit hub relocation prospects. The transit hub is currently located at the Wharf Cinema Center on Luakini Street in Lahaina. Alternative locations to be discussed include: a location adjoining the Lahaina harbor, the parking lot across from Kamehameha III Elementary School, the parking lot across from 505 Front Street, a site near the Lahaina Aquatic Center, and a property near the former Pioneer Mill.

Public input regarding these proposed alternatives and suggestions for additional alternative sites are welcome. The meeting will be a chance for the public to learn more about the locations being considered and to have their questions answered.

Councilmember Cochran has also invited Director of  Transportation JoAnne Johnson Winer, Director of Planning William Spence, Deputy Director of Public Works Rowena Dagdag-Andaya, and a representative from the Department of Police to attend the meeting.

The meeting is open to the public. For more information, please contact Councilmember Cochran’s Executive Assistants, Sarah Freistat Pajimola or Jordan Molina, at 270-5504.
