Hawaii’s budget director told state lawmakers that Gov. Neil Abercrombie did not intend to ask for any tax increases during this year’s session, despite a downgrade in the state revenues forecast, but didn’t rule out increases next year.
Honolulu Civil Beat reports that state Budget Director Kalbert Young told lawmakers at a budget briefing that Abercrombie’s budget for the fiscal year that starts July 1 is on track but said the implications of the Council on Revenues’ downgrade for the current fiscal year to 11.5 percent growth on the next two fiscal years “are quite considerable and severe that revenue enhancements should at least be reviewed.”
