The National Weather Service in Honolulu has continued the HIGH SURF ADVISORY for NORTH FACING SHORES of MAUI and MOLOKAI in effect until 6:00 p.m. this evening.
A High Surf Advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area, producing rip currents and localized beach erosion.
EFFECTS: Above advisory level surf heights will continue this morning for shores exposed to the large northwest swell. Surf will diminish this afternoon, subsiding to below advisory levels by the evening.
Surf heights will be 12 to 16 feet along north facing shores.
Forecast surf heights are estimates of the height of the face or front of waves.
A high tide of approximately 1.6 feet is expected between 11:00 p.m. and 12:12 a.m. this evening.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: BEACH GOERS ARE URGED TO STAY OUT OF THE WATER AND WELL AWAY FROM THE SHORE BREAK DUE TO THE HAZARDOUS WAVE ACTION AND STRONG RIP CURRENTS.
