A Missouri woman is dead after a fall near a waterfall in the Bamboo Forest of East Maui.
Shortly after 1 p.m. yesterday, Maui police, fire rescue, and Air 1 responded to the area of the Bamboo Forrest Trail, Hana Highway (360) between mile marker 6 and 7, for a female that had fallen about 25 to 30 feet off a waterfall.
Upon arrival, Air 1 transported the female victim from the area of the waterfall, which is located about 2 miles from the highway, to a landing zone below where police, fire rescue, and ambulance personnel were standing by.
The female victim, who suffered massive head injuries, expired before being transported to the hospital.
Preliminary investigation revealed that witnesses observed the female victim to have fallen from about 25 to 30 feet off the waterfall and landed on rocks in the pond below.
Police have classified the case as a miscellaneous accident. No foul play suspected.
The female victim, was identified as a Susan E. Stephens (46) of Chesterfield, Missouri.
