Honolulu – The U.S. Department of Education today released its National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) bi-annual scores. Hawai’i is the only state that demonstrated gains across the board: both subjects (reading and math) and at both grade levels (4th and 8th grades). Hawai’i’s gains are sustained: among top five states in improvement since 2003; and Hawai’i’s gains are among the top three states among the 12 Race to the Top states.
Following the release of the report, Governor Neil Abercrombie released the following statement:
“This is the best kind of news. It shows that the team of educators, parents and children when supported and empowered can be incredibly competitive and successful.
“The ongoing commitment and dedication of our public school educators, parents, and keiki produced these results. These results validate our approach and renew our commitment to achieving the goals we set.
“We believe these results will drive everyone – parents, teachers, administrators, and policy makers – to build on this success.”
